How vital is a “Trainer to Client” relationship these days?

12 10 2011

As I enter my fourth year as a business owner and certified personal trainer, I can tell you that building a strong relationship with your client is “key” to your success and theirs. It never fails to amaze me how little time and money business spend on building relationships with their existing customer base in comparison to how much they spend in acquiring new ones. It’s like as soon as they welcome you in the family they are already focused on their next potential family member….what’s up with that!

I mean, what is the point of looking for new potential clients when you cannot satisfy the ones you already have. Isn’t the point to acquire clients so that you can build a relationship, build a trust and achieve an objective with them? In other words, take real good care of the people you have at home before you venture out to find new ones.

My core business is composed of clients I have had the pleasure of serving for over two years.I routinely go out of my way to make sure that those clients are taking care of “first” and to the best of my ability. I would have it no other way. In fact, my relationship is so good with my clients that all of them consider me a friend and trusted adviser. In other words, they will not hesitate for a minute to refer my services to any other friend, associate, or even a family member. That is golden my friends….you can bank on that!

So, how vital is a “trainer to client” relationship these days? I think you get the point.

Until next time,

What is one of the biggest challenges in maintaining an exercise program? Here is a clue…Tic-Tac.

28 09 2011
“Those who do not find time for exercise will have to find time for illness”-Earl of Derby.
A friend of mine once told me that if I had a dime for every hour I spent exercising…I would be a wealthy man. My response was, “who said I wasn’t?” Now, let me clarify. Financially wealthy I am not (but you figured that one out already), what I am talking about is having the capability, energy and desire  to do things in your 40′s that you could only dream about doing in your 30′s. That kind of “wealth” my friends cannot be bought or acquired with money. The only way to get it? You said it…..make the ”TIME for EXERCISE”.
About 90 percent of the people I have meet over the years have told me that if they could find more time for exercise they would. So I would ask, ” When you get sick, don’t you find the time to get better? When your car breaks down, or you need to repair something around the house…don’t you make time for that? What about an opportunity to make some extra cash?  GET MY POINT!!
I urge all of you to start making a conscious decision to set aside time for a strength training and cardiovascular program….today. Take that first step and never look back. It will be a challenge at first, but in time you will see the many rewards it will bring you. Wh0 wants live their “golden years”with limited physical potential? A life that is filled with medications, doctor visits and hospital stays? These should be the best years of life…not the worst.
Contact your local “certified personal trainer” and start today!! NO MORE EXECUSES…TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE.
Thanking you all for your continued support.
God Bless,

How to cope with “a loss” of a friend? Not easy..

4 05 2011

They say, “Life is a beautiful thing. That you should cherish every moment you have as if it was your last.” I didn’t give it much tought before, but now since my friend and business associate Dr. Jason W. was taken away so rapidly and without any warning , my whole perspective has definitely changed forever and will never be the same.

At the age of 35, he was by far one of the most honest and trusting individual you could ever meet. He was a smart man with a great sense of humor. A well-respected doctor and by far a great father to his only son–Tyler. He had a passion for life and the people he touched will never be the same again…..including yours truly.

I constantly remind myself everyday how lucky I am to be alive and fortunate to be surrounded by people who truly love me. My friend Jason was taken away too quickly and for that I will never forget the times we spent together. His memory will live in me for ever and his spirit will never be forgotten. His father put it best when he said to me,” I guess God needed a good chiropractor today……luckily for him he got the best one there was.”

My deepest and sincerest condolences go to Jason’s family and all the people he touched over the years. He will be missed…..especially by me.

Take care my friend….I will see you on the other side.

Sincerely,

How can you avoid “too many calories” and still enjoy the holiday season?

24 12 2010

The “FTE”  family would like to wish everyone a “Merry Christmas”and may the new year bring lots of good health and happiness. On that note, it’s only fair that we all indulge “a little” in the festivities with some good old egg nog and apple pie. But, how much is too much? How can we be smart about our decisions to keep things under control?

Here are three things you can do:

1)   Portion Control……. That’s right! This is the time of year to eat different foods and experiment wisely. Use smaller plates and cups  to enjoy the food and beverages. Less food=Less calories and Less calories=Less weight you have to deal with in the new year.

2)  Take a break……. An excellent way to give your body a chance to digest your food is to give yourself a break. Go outside and take a walk (weather permitting) or gather your family around and have fun with a board game or enjoy the many activities available to you. Giving your body and mind a break can eliminate unwanted cravings and that’s a plus on your side.

3)  New Resolutions….. Why not get a head start on your resolutions for the new year! Take a moment to make a list on the things you would like to accomplish for 2011. For example, spend more time with the family, practice your faith (if you have one), give any free time you have to the ones that needed the most and, last but not least, pay more attention to your health by exercising and eating better. Having a list will force you to stick to your goals and will take a bite out of those unwanted “calories”.

Remember, everything happens because you made the decision to change. Don’t expect others to make that choice for you. Everything happens for a reason…. take control of your life today and live a better life tomorrow.

Fitness Tip #5 Use different equipment to achieve your fitness goals.

8 11 2010

I am positive you have heard this expression before” If you do the same thing everyday and expect a different outcome…..you are only fooling yourself !!”. The same goes for your exercise routine. If I do the same workout day after day, use the same amount of weight and repitition, your body will become stagnant and you will not see the results you truly deserve. So what is one thing you can  do? The answer…….diversify your equipment.

I am not saying you should go out and buy every different kind of equipment available to you ( believe me some stuff they sell out there is pure junk), but start with the basics. Here are some things you should have:

1. Balls: Medicine balls, stability balls, bosu ( a half a ball).

2. Bands: Physical therapy bands( blue, red, yellow colors). Rubber Tubing w/handle ( great for seniors).

3. Straps: The “TRX” is a phenomenal piece of equipment. It is not cheap (cost $179.00), but the workouts are amazing!

4. Kettle bells: Great alternative to dumbbells.

These are  just a few things you can get that will spruce up your routine and give your body that needed change. Who knows….maybe you’ll even see your body starting to change.

Talk to you all soon.

What does it take to accomplish your fitness goals?

20 10 2010

At a recent networking event I attended, a very prominent individual was asked to answer the following question: What does it take to accomplish your goal? He thought about the question for a moment, then he cleared his voice and without hesitation answered the question in one word…DETERMINATION.

I would like to point out, that it wasn’t what he said that caught my attention, but the way he said it and how he said it. Do you remember the scene in the movie ”Gone with the Wind” when Clark Gable says to Vivian Leigh, “Frankly my dear…I don’t give a damn!” That’s powerful stuff.

Determination is by far the most critical element that a person must and should have in order to accomplish any goal….especially when it comes to “FITNESS”.  It defines who you are and what you will become. It gives you that “EDGE” that most people lack. It is that pivotal moment in your life when things finally begin to change….hopefully for the better.

Getting fit, believe it or not, starts all in the brain. Once you make that committment, that determination to do something, nothing will get in it’s way. It will find a road,a path a highway no matter how hard the task is or how long it takes. And that’s exactly what you need to achieve or accomplish your fitness goal.

That’s it for now. And remember,” Take care of your body today and it will take care of you in the future…guaranteed!”

Sincerely,

What are some of the qualities that a “personal trainer” should and must have?

6 10 2010

When you think of a “personal trainer” what are some qualities that come to mind? Do you think that he/she should be well-educated? How about physically fit, personable, flexible, organized, goal oriented, determined, and so on… Theses are all great qualities and a must in order to stay competitive and profitable in this field. But what do potential clients really look for in a personal trainer?  Let’s take a look:

  1. Communication….. Being able to communicate what you know is extremely  important. Take the time to explain things clearly and accurate. This is not something tangible you are selling. You are there to change their life through hard work, education and perseverance. Not an easy thing to do, but a must in order to sell your services.
  2. Listening….. What did you say? I must have missed that. Exactly. To be a good educator… you must be first a good listener. If you do not listen carefully to what your clients are saying, how can you create a program that will meet their specific needs?
  3. Patience…. Patience is a virtue! That’s what they say. A good trainer will understand how to use this to his/her advantage and when not to. People work on all different levels and a trainer must be willing to adapt to all kinds of levels if he is to succeed.
  4. Reliability…. Like an old car pulling it’s weight through the years, a good trainer will always be there for their client. When a personal trainer is contracted to change a person’s life….it is a major committment. If a client can see that their personal trainer is as devoted (if not more) then they are,  you will have accomplished what many business are trying to strive for today….. TRUST!!
  5. Honesty…. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me. Telling your client what they want to hear just to get them to sign on the dotted line…is wrong. A trainer who has had the proper training and education should know what is myth and what is not. Trying to sell something that is both bogus and not properly evaluated by a recognizable athletic body can have serious consequences. So don’t do it!!

So there you have it. These are a just a few of the qualities a good personal trainer should have. Are there more out there? Off course. But that’s the responsibility of a trainer to find out.

And remember: Take care of your body today and it will take care of you tomorrow!!
